Burial: Riverside Public Cemetery, Riverside
Clayton John Sexton, age 83, of Riverside, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home in Riverside, surrounded by his family, following a several month illness.
Celebration of Life services will be Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2301 East Court, and Iowa City. Pastor Brent Hartwig
will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Public Cemetery, Riverside.
Visitation will be at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona on Friday, July 9 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the Church in Iowa City.
Clayton was born August 21, 1926 in Richmond, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Victorine Gerot Sexton. He attended Richmond and City High schools. Clayton enlisted in the U S Army and served during WWII in the European campaigns.
Clayton and Jeannette Blum were married in Iowa City on August 16, 1949.
Clayton was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and had served on the founding committee when the Church was formed. He was a member of the Allis Connection of Elizabeth, IL, and the Riverside Community Club where he had received a 25 year certificate. He served for nine years on the Riverside Volunteer Fire Dept. the Iowa Township trusee, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a mechanic and continued to enjoy working with and collecting Allis Chambers tractors all his life. In addition to collecting and maintaining Allis Chamber his hobbies were fishing, hunting, time at the cabin, tractor rides, playing euchre, gardening, planting trees. and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Jeannette, seven children and spouses, Ronna and Steve Sojka, Robert and Carol Sexton, Ronald and Theresa Sexton, Randy and Laurie Sexton, Becky and Paul LaRoche, Rita and Gary Yoder all of Riverside, and Renee Sexton of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren,Tina Sojka (friend Chris McGee), Gabe (Pam) Sojka, Emily Sexton, Elizabeth (Zach) Hayes, Craig(Carrie ) Sexton, Amy Sexton(finace' Darrick Eldridge), Kyle Sexton, Chris (Nicole) Sexton, Chad Sexton, Curtis (Jackie) Sexton, Cory (fiance' Shannon Hills), Jeremy (birdgett) LaRoche, Michael (Katie) LaRoche, Daniel and Thomas LaRoche, Amanda (Jason) Adrian, Sheena and Kelsey Yoder, Zach Mellinger, 12 great grandchildren, Anja Sojka, Ashton, Malachi, Austyn, Chole, Catelynn, Noa, Ava Sexton, Grace LaRoche, ryan and Stanley Adrian, Christopher Swailes, and two brothers, Claude Sexton of Hills and Marion and Joesfina Sexton of Riverside and one sister Gladys Herman of Mission, TX.
Clayton was preceded by his parents and his son Steven Sexton, daughter-in-law, Lori Sexton, three grandchildren, Anthony, Colin, Caitlynn Sexton, and three brothers, Louis, Roy and Fay Sexton.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice or family’s choice.
