Funeral services for Eric Thirtle, 71, of Kalona will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10:30AM at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona with Pastor Marv Feigenspan and Pastor Tim Endecott officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will begin Thursday, August 5 at 9:30 AM until 8:00 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial funda has been established for the National Kidney Foundation and the Kalona 1st Responders. Eric died Monday, August 02, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a brief illness.

 

Eric Thirtle was born July 15, 1939 in Aylesbury, England the son Arthur Charles and Mary Helen (Messam) Thirtle. He graduated from school in England and on August 12, 1967 he was united in marriage to Doris Schrock at the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Eric was a custodian for many years until retiring due to health complications. He attended The Church of God 7 Day Advantist in Marion and the High Point City Church in Iowa City. Eric enjoyed classical music, playing solitaire, driving his Amish friends and watching old British comedies.

 

Survivors include his wife Doris of Kalona, one son, Myron Thirtle of Kalona, two daughters and spouses, Crystal (Andy) Wade of West Chester, IA, Joyce (Barry) Butler of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Brandon, Ella, Liana Wade, two honorary grandchildren, Josh Burton and Jacob Kinder, one brother, Ian Thirtle and one sister Anne (Jim) Williams both of England.

 

Preceding Eric in death were his parents.
