A celebration of life for Pauline L. (Peterseim) Miller will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where Pauline was born.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 – 11:00 AM.   A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Food Pantry.  Pauline Miller died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona where she had been living since 2010.

Pauline Lucille Peterseim was born March 27, 1920 in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Rollin and Barbara Peterseim.  She had an older sister, Helen (now deceased), a younger sister, Virginia, now deceased (married name Hartzler), and a younger brother, Harold (Short) who is also now deceased.

She married Don O. Miller in 1940 and they had two children – Jeanette Louise and James Don Miller.  She had five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Pauline lived most of her life in Kalona where she was employed as a secretary/receptionist for Dr. Ware, as a clerk in Reif's Department Store, and as a bookkeeper for Gates Chevrolet, before working in Miller Hardware & Gifts, a store she purchased with her husband in 1963.  She took pride in providing for the Kalona community a bridal registery (Kalona's first) and an array of domestic and imported giftware and housewares, including dishes, cookware, and collectibles such as Hummel figurines and plates.

She was a life-time member of United Christian & Baptist Church and served in many capacities there, including deacon and greeter.  She sang alto in the church choir for many years.  She was especially supportive of mission work and, until her sight prevented her from sewing, attended the women's sewing group which made and sent quilts to the needy, domestically and to other countries.  She was an avid contributor to the project which sent school supplies and clothing via missionary Pat Anderson to Haiti.

Survivors include two children: Jeanette Miller of Iowa City, Jim (Suzanne) Miller of Hills, five grandchildren: Todd Yoder, Tia Yoder, Trent Yoder, Jesse Miller, Caitlin Miller, and six great grandchildren: Garrett, Charlotte, Sam, Henry, Susan and Pauline.

Preceding Pauline in death were her parents, her husband Don in November of 2014, her sisters Helen Peterseim and Virginia Hartzler, her brother Harold Peterseim and her great granddaughter Ivy Jane Yoder.

Dear Jeanette, Jim, and Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I always loved going into the hardware store and speaking with your mother while looking at all of her pretty items. I always seemed to find something I "needed".

She was a wonderful woman and I'm sure you have many happy memories which will see you through this void in your life.
