Edwin Ray Hostetler was born December 8, 1929, in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Alvin J. and Ida (Miller) Hostetler.  He served in PAX in Germany after World War 2. Edwin was united in marriage to Susie Anna Helmuth in 1955.  Susie Anna died in 2002, and on January 1, 2005, he married Susie J. (Schlabach) Yoder.

Edwin lived and worked his entire life in the Kalona area, where he farmed along with working in feed sales at the local Kent Feeds store. Edwin and his family spent a year in Albert Lea, MN in the early 70’s, where he followed a call to help with church planting work in that community. After retiring, Edwin and Susie Anna cleaned houses and businesses together in the Iowa City area until Susie Anna’s death. Edwin enjoyed mowing lawns, watching birds, doing puzzles, traveling and spending time with his family. Edwin was a long-time member of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church, where he served faithfully in various capacities. He also served on the Iowa Mennonite School board, and worked with a local prison ministry.

I remember your Dad as always being kind, gentle, and personable! Even in recent years when I would visit Sunnyside, he would talk with me. I remember going to your parents' home for MYF activities and he was very welcoming. Your Mother was a great cook with plenty of food for us!I am sorry for your loss and I am sure it is extra hard to be losing a parent in 2020. May you experience Jesus' comfort.Sandy (Rhodes) Schwartz, NYC

I have many great memories of walking over to Edwins with either Grandma or Grandpa Logan, and sometimes got sent on my own to take something to them. I always enjoyed seeing them. I know they were very dear friends of my grandparents, my mom and my aunts and uncles. What a wonderful man he was. Prayers to your family.

I, too, have fond memories of The Edwin Hostetler Family. Edwin was a wonderful neighbor to my parents. He was genuine and sincere. His demeanor was quiet in the many contributions he made in various ways. Edwin lived a full and rich life that was shared in a meaningful way with many. Thank you, Edwin.

So many rich memories of Edwin. He was / is always Our Neighbor . I can appreciate our friendship and the many bits of advice he gave me when I was younger. He helped me understand many things that later became very clear. From shelling corn to making hay , to farrowing pigs, to cleaning stables and just talking over the tractor fender......he was always there to help. The work got done but......above all is What he meant to me! Rest in Peace Edwin.
