Gary King

A memorial service for Gary L. King, 71, of Kalona, will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church in Kalona. Inurnment of cremains will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery. A time to greet the family will be held Thursday, March 1 from 4 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church. Gary King died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital following a sudden illness.

Gary Lynn King was born July 31, 1946 in Holdenville, OK., the son of C. C. and Mildred (Stephenson) King. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Gary served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. On August 6, 1971 he was united in marriage to Patsy Roller in Pauls Valley, OK. He spent his career as an executive in the transportation industry, serving the past 20 years as Vice President of Human Resources and Safety at Heartland Express in North Liberty. Gary was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church where he served as Finance Chair for many years. He was also a member of the Amana Sportsman Club. Gary enjoyed reading, traveling, shooting sporting clays, and trap and skeet shooting. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and he loved spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife Patsy of Kalona, two daughters: Kari Rubel and children Kaycee and Karson Rubel of Dakota City, IA., Kelli (Michael) Trimpe and children Clarice and Shelbie Trimpe of Kalona, one brother Charles (Kay) King of Tulsa, OK., one sister Pamela (Kurt) Jackson of Ada, OK. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gary in death were his parents.
