Gary and I went to Stillwater High School together. He was always kind to others, even as a young highschool boy, and he was exceptionally honest. We often sat near one another in class and he didn't like it if someone was cheating. I highly respected him for these great character traits. Your family has my prayers for comfort and peace.Barbara Bryan Kirby

Gary and I worked closely at Direct Transit in North Sioux City, SD in the 80's and 90's - overseeing Safety and Operations in a 1500 truck operation. As I have functioned in safety for nearly 46 years in this business, I had never found anyone as capable as Gary was; he was truly a rare gem in an industry that desperately needed expertise such as he provided. On the personal side at the time Gary and worked together my wife and I were housing exchange students and we happened to have one from France, who also worked as an intern at Direct. I fondly remember Gary loading up his truck with assorted firearms and teaching that Frenchman how to safely fire a weapon - keep in mind that in France, you can't own a firearm. That exchange student and I still to this day talk of that experience. Through the years Gary and I have maintained contact, the most recent being this past Thursday; how fortunate I was to have that conversation. Gary was my truefriend, and co-worker thru the years....I shall terribly miss his advice, and friendship. There is an old saying, many people have acquaintances but few true friends....Gary was a true friend. God Bless in his next life.

Pasty and family you have my wife and mine deepest sympathy. I worked with Gary for the past 20 years at Heartland. We shared many conversations about a many different topics. I also was the person for past 20 years that called to your home late night to report accidents and other serious issues at Heartland. I like a lot people learned quite a lot from Gary's knowledge. I will surely miss going into his office to share conversation and just shoot the breeze in the morning after my day.Steven and Valeria Schnor.
