Ilene (Kennard) Trier was born September 14, 1926, on the family farm near Kalona, the daughter of Clyde and Violet (Shepardson) Kennard. She graduated from Kalona High School in 1944. On November 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Joe Trier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota. She lived most of her life in Washington, Iowa, and assisted her husband on the family farm. Ilene was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a former member of the Washington Community Y, and enjoyed the outdoors: nature, flowers, and birds, dancing, golf, and reading.

Survivors include daughter-in-law Shelley (John) Blakeney of Washington, Iowa; grandsons Aaron Trier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kyle Blakeney of Fremont, California; sister-in-law: LaVonne Kerkove of Ankeny, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

I have not seen Ilene in many years. Joe was my first cousin. There was a big age gap. I have very fond memories of them both. They were my Godparents. I am Majorie Sondags daughter I wasnt used to be singled out but they were always so thoughtful to bring me presents for my Birthday and Christmas for a long time. They were also friends with my in laws later on. Im so sorry for your loss and wish I could be there for her service. Know that she was a very Special Godmother to a poor little girl! It appears she was the Godmother to many, including myself. Very obvious that she took this role seriously and that others took notice. Aunt Ilene will certainly be missed but forever remembered!Todd and Julie Krantz and Family
