Karen Ilene (Butterbaugh) Brandt was born January 5, 1947 in Washington, Iowa the daugther of Dairld and Yevonne (Romine) Butterbaugh. She graduated from Mid Prairie High School in 1966. While she was in high school she worked as a waitress at the Capper Cafe. After graduation she worked at Sheller Globe in Iowa City. On October 7, 1972 she was united in marriage to Gaylord Brandt and the couple enjoyed traveling the country for many years thanks to Gaylord's employment as a boilermaker. The couple later divorced. Karen then worked in the kitchen at Parkview Manor in Wellman for three years and in 1994 she began working in housekeeping at the University of Iowa on the burn unit, where she was currently employed. She loved animals of all kinds.
Survivors include her son Eric Brandt of Wellman, IA, one sister; Juanita Kauffman of Washington, IA, a number of nieces and nephews, one uncle; Jerry Butterbaugh of Florida, one aunt; Betty and husband Knight Wagner of Sacramento, CA, and a cousin; Jesse Hohenshell of Wellman, IA.
Preceding Karen in death were her parents, one brother; Ron Butterbaugh, a nephew; Shawn Butterbaugh and a number of aunts and uncles.
My thoughts and prays go out to Karen's family.I had the joy of knowning karen from being a custodian at U I H C.She was a very nice and helpful person.

I've known Karen my entire life.We spent a lot of time as kids riding ponies and just hanging out.To Eric, Juanita and the rest of the family, you have my deepest sympathy.We'll all miss her.

I worked for a very short time on the burn unit at UIHC and I can tell you that Karen was a very kind and friendly person. My thoughts and prayers go out to you as she will be missed by many.

Karen will be missed by all. She was a true friend .When ever you seen Karen she always had a smile on her face .My sympathy to her family.

Our sympathy goes out to Karen's family! She was a great lady. She always had time to sit and talk about Wellman and the good old days. She was always up beat and you always went away feeling better after talking to her. She will be greatly missed. Our lives are alittle bit better from knowing her. Our deepest sympaty! I worked with Karen at the University of Iowa Burn Unit.She was a genuine, caring, and nice person.Karen always had a smile for everyone she saw.She will be truly missed.

Karen will truly be missed by all that knew her, she was so simple, polite, and a true blessing to all her UIHC family! I will miss her friendly conversationpassing in the halls and in Burn Unit, her Smile was so heartwarming as her chatter. She had such an uplifting spirit that could make everyone feel good. May her family find comfort in all the wonderful memories through this time of sorrow!

I grew up in Daytonville and was friends with her brother Ron. My deepest sympathy to her family. She was always a quiet, kind person.

I worked with Karen at the University also as a custodian. She was always a joy to be around, her smile was contagious. May your memories of her give you comfort, God Bless!
