Kay Stigers

December 8, 1942 — August 30, 2013


A celebration of life for Kay (Johnson) Stigers, 70, of West Chester will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.  Burial will follow at the West Chester Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Monday, September 2, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home.   A general memorial fund has been established.  Kay Stigers died Friday, August 30, 2013 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.

Kay Elizabeth (Mangold) Stigers was born December 8, 1942 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Stanley F. and Betty (McCartney) Mangold.  She attended Dutch Creek rural school and West Chester High School.  On August 21, 1965 she was united in marriage to Paul Johnson in Iowa City.   After his death in 1999 she married Fred Stigers on December 5, 2009 in Washington.   Kay worked as a waitress for many years, auto body for 12 years in Iowa City, cook at the Washington Care Center, managed Daylight Doughnuts in Washington and later worked at and retired from Civco in Kalona.  Kay was a member of the First Baptist Church and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, watching birds, feeding squirrels and humming birds, the Iowa Hawkeys and country and gospel music.

Survivors include her husband Fred of West Chester, Iowa, three children; Jim White of Washington, Iowa, Sherry (Bruce) Swailes of West Chester, Iowa, Jo (Poe) and Doug Pratt of Kalona, Iowa, and her very close friend, Barb Milam, who Kay thought of as a sister.  Also surviving are seven step children; Paula Shafer of Coppock, Iowa, Connie (Johnson) Rockhold of Washington, Paul "Pee Wee" Johnson, Jr.  of Washington, Iowa, Ron (Lori) Stigers of Cloquet, Minnesota, Daniel (Deb) Stigers of Washington, Iowa, Fran Stigers of Washington, Iowa, Pam Calhoun of Manson, Washington, grandchildren, step grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews, a brother; Richard "Dick" and wife Linda Mangold of Washington, Iowa, a sister in law; Connie Mangold of Wapello, Iowa and her beloved pet; Bubba.

Preceding Kay in death were her parents, her first husband; Paul Johnson, one brother; Bill Mangold, three step daughters; Linda Crossett, Vera Wagenknecht, Paula Kirfman,  step son in law; Butch Shafer, and two grandchildren; Bambi Johnson and Jamey Shafer.
