A celebration of life for Leona R. Blum, 93, of Washington,IA will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the Wellman Public Cemetery around 4 P.M. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30 from 1–3 PM at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for a Scholarship fund with the Mid-Prairie School. Leona Blum died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the McCreedy Home in Washington. Where she has been a resident for the past 13 years.
Leona Ruth (Beer) Blum was born July 29, 1923 in Lone Tree, Iowa, the daughter of Noah Daniel and Mary Margaret (Attig) Beer. She taught at the Prairie Flower School until 1950 and was a substitute teacher in the Mid-Prairie School District until 1979. On February 19, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald Otto Blum.
She belonged to various organizations thru the years both in Wellman & Washington as: The VFW Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge of IOOF, Past Noble Grand, and the Garden Club. She enjoyed growing roses and flowers and teaching the kids.
Survivors include her two sons: Dean Blum of Des Moines, IA., Dale Blum of Memphis, TN., one grandson, Danny Blum of Mt. Airy, NC., and two great grandchildren: Devon and Alexandria.
Preceding Leona in death were her parents, her husband and one sister Dorothea Bare.
