Leroy Stutzman

A celebration of life for Leroy Stutzman, 85, of Washington, will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church in Kalona with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24 from 3- 5 and 6 -8 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church. Leroy Stutzman died Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Washington County Hospital.

Leroy Wayne Stutzman was born May 4, 1933 in rural Johnson County, the son of Ervin J. and Lydia (Bontrager) Stutzman.  He attended East Lincoln rural school. In 1954 he was united in marriage to LaVerna Lumpa at the Kalona Methodist Church. After LaVerna's death he was united in marriage to Norma (Greiner) Redlinger at St. James' Catholic Church in Washington on April 20, 1979. Leroy farmed all of his life, first for 20 years in Johnson County and then later in both Johnson and Washington Counties. He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church where he was active in the United Methodist Men group. He was also a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and the Johnson County Pork Producers. Leroy enjoyed watching the Cubs, fishing, woodworking, gardening, cooking and mowing. A highlight of Leroy's week was attending worship services, where he enjoyed seeing his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Norma of Washington, two sons: Steve Stutzman and Doug Stutzman of Wellman, three step daughters: Vicki (Mark) Spenner of Waukee, Angie (Jeff) Ulferts of Swisher, Mickey Redlinger of Ames, seven grandchildren: Stuart (Abby) Stutzman, Carrie (Jason) Schweitzer, Olivia (Andrew) Kahler, Madeline Stutzman and special friend Ryan, Jacob Spenner and Joshua and Mallory Ulferts, six great grandchildren: Marian, Lana, Carson, Hannah, Joceyln and Hudson. Also surviving are three siblings: Stanley (Shirley) Stutzman of Frytown, Alta Widmer of Iowa City, and Ann Raber of Sarasota, FL.

Preceding Leroy in death were his parents, his first wife Laverna, four sisters: Mary Bontrager, Ada V. Stutzman, Barbara Bender and an infant sister, and five brothers: John, Omar, Levi, Henry and Ervin Stutzman, Jr.
