Linda Underwood

A celebration of life for Linda K. (Hill) Underwood, 63, of Mechanicsville, will be held Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in rural Wayland with Pastor Nancy Sutherland officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 AM.  A memorial fund has been established for the Mechancsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Cottonwood Cemetery.  Linda Underwood died Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.

Linda K. (Hill) Underwood was born May 27, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Sinn) Hill.  She graduated from WACO High School.  In 1992 she was united in marriage to Paul Underwood in Cedar Rapids.  Linda was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, and reading scripture.  She was very involved in the lives of her children.  Linda bravely endured MS for 21 years, never letting the disease define her, instead using her faith and strong spirit to bring blessings to others.

Survivors include her husband, Paul of Des Moines, a son, Ryan (Jill) Hill of Lisbon, IA, five step children: Becky (Tim) Edie of Reedsburg, WI, Steve (Dale) Underwood of Garrison, IA, Diane (Lyndon) Iddings of Edmondton, Canada, Lowell (Elizabeth) Underwood of Fairfax, IA, Lisa Lee of Des Moines,  IA,  21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, seven siblings: Mildred Rich of Wayland, IA, Beulah Manning of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Johnnie (Gail) Hill of Palm Springs, CA, Violet (Harry) McGuire of Olds, IA,  Thelma (Larry) Bush, and Arthur (Sandy) Hill of Burlington, IA,  and Gary (Laura) Hill of Washington, IA.

Preceding Linda in death were her parents, a baby brother, Dwight Hill and brothers Dennis and Marvin Hill.
