Sheila Goodwin

Sheila Mae (Olive) Goodwin, 63, of Washington, Iowa, grabbed Jesus’ hand as he passed by on March 11, 2019 and was ushered into Heaven after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Washington First Assembly of God Church with Pastors James Cluney and Dave Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Hook Cemetery in Brighton. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, March 15 where the family will greet friends from 4 – 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Washington First Assembly kitchen remodeling fund (Sheila loved to cook and eat at church parties!) or Jeremy and Jenilee Goodwin, missionaries to Senegal, West Africa. The Beatty Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Sheila was born May 14, 1955 in Springfield, IL daughter of Fred and Lorene “Midge” (Van Huss) Olive. She graduated from Virden High School in Virden, IL in 1973. Sheila attended Central Bible College in Springfield, MO where she met Rick Goodwin. They married in 1976. Sheila was blessed to work from home as the office administrator of Goodwin House Moving so she could be a stay at home mom and grandma. She was part owner of Cheryl's Ice Cream Shack and her favorite job was making milkshakes. Sheila spent her whole life serving Christ and serving others. She was a member of Washington First Assembly of God church and served in many capacities including women's ministry, pianist and children's church leader for many years.

She leaves behind her husband Rick, her children: Tanya Reighard of Coralville, IA, Jeremy (Jenilee) Goodwin Missionaries to Senegal, West Africa, Kara (Damon) Marr of Washington, IA. and Chris Reighard of Washington, IA. Sheila's real pride and joy was her 11 grandchildren – Jake, Matt, Sammie, Justus, and Colben Reighard; Elayna, Annalise and Abby Goodwin; and Hudson, Kinsey and Piper Marr. She is also survived by her dad, Fred Olive, sisters Cheryl Richardson of Washington, IA, Cyndi Savoy of Girard, IL, and Karen Olive of Springfield, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Sheila joined her son, Jason Goodwin, and her mother, Midge Olive, who preceded her into Heaven.

My sincere condolences to your family. Death at any age or under circumstance is hard to bear. May you find a measure of comfort in the promise at Rev. 21:4 of a time when death will be no more and loved ones will be reunited.

Thoughts and prayers are with the Goodwin family.

Your bright light now shines bright all over Heaven, Never to be dimmed again

There aren't enough words to describe what you have meant to me and what your presence in my life has done for me. So many years of laughs, tears, hugs, afternoon chats and sometimes you just sitting with me reminding you loved me and were there for me. You were another daughter to my mother, loving her and lifting her spirits so many times when I couldn't. I still can't reconcile the fact I'm never going to see your smile or feel your hugs this side of Heaven. I truly put all my faith in seeing you along with my mom again in Heaven as soon as I can get there. I'm sure Mom is already hugging you! You have reached your prize Sheila, run free through the streets of Heaven and know that we who love you so much will catch up with you soon!

Sheila, beautiful inside and out. Her laugh was one of a kind. You knew who she was by her laugh and smile. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a great cook. We looked forward to church events to eat her new dishes she would bring.(enough to feed an army, yummy).Strong ,loving and caring for others. She loved her children, but her grand kids were her life. You will be missed. I'm sure your praising God along side your son, Jason and your mom. Our prayers go out to all of the family.
