, where he had been lovingly cared for the past week by his family and Hospice of Iowa City.
A celebration of Tim's life will be held at
2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 27, at
Shiloh
. Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, is in charge of arrangements. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in
North
Hill
Cemetery
, Wayland. Tim's request was that in lieu of flowers, monetary memorials be designated to
Shiloh
in support of the
Health Commission
or the
Memorial
Cemetery
, or to Hospice of Iowa City.
Tim was born
October 28, 1957
, son of Dick and Mary (Bowser) Schlatter, in
Washington
. He graduated from
WACO
High School
in 1976, and from the
University
of
Iowa
in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and human resources. He played football and basketball throughout junior high and high school, and was a member of the
University
of
Iowa
football squad from 1976-78. He married the love of his life,
Jean
e (Cochrum) Cabral, on
October 25, 2008
. Tim was a member of The Living Word Fellowship at
Shiloh
.
Tim worked in the family business (Schlatter Garage) for 10 years. He worked in construction during three summers while at the
University
of
Iowa
, and worked three years in
Colorado
on drilling rigs owned by Scott and Judy Utz. After graduation he managed the knife and gun department at Cook Sporting Goods in
Henderson
,
Colo.
He worked as a sales rep for Gerber Legendary Blades of Oregon, when he lived in
Kansas City
,
Kan.
, and later
Saint Petersberg
,
Fla.
before moving back to the Kalona area. Tim managed Finn and Feather Sporting Goods stores in
Iowa City
and
Cedar Rapids
for two years, after which he represented Ferguson-Keller Assoc. Inc. of
Minneapolis
,
Minn.
, working with Bass Pro shops as Senior Account Representative, selling lines such as Daiwa, Browning, Berrata, and others until August 2011. Tim was an avid supporter of area Pheasants Forever, White Tail Unlimited and Wild Turkey Federation.
Tim was passionate in his love for the outdoors, especially enjoying a good hunt or a day fishing, working in his yard and flowers, or walking his dog, Meinie. He never passed up a chance to spend time with his family and was quick with a hug or encouraging word. Nobody will ever forget his booming "belly laugh" as he told a good story, or someone shared an experience about an unforgettable time they had with Tim. He loved going to and watching sporting events, especially to watch his little brother, nephews and niece, and was always expressing encouragement while making sure they knew how proud he was of them. Tim loved to travel and experience life in as many ways as possible and was quick to make friends wherever he went. He also lived life to the words of the
Iowa
fight song and "fought until the game was won."

and Eric Heckendorn of Huber Heights, Ohio, a niece
Elicia Flores
and husband David, of Pacoima, Calif.,
Michael Schlatter
of Nevada, Ia., Andrew and Caleb Schlatter, Story City; and eight grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Millard and Leola (Christner Schlatter) Crandall, and Samuel and Matilda (Brewer) Bowser.
