Velma Milford

A celebration of life for Velma Milford, 75, of Iowa City, formerly of Kalona, will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1 from 3 – 6PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established. Velma Milford died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Velma was born June 4, 1943 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Blanche (Hart) Bland. She was united in marriage to Andy H. Milford on September 2, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa. Velma worked at the University of Iowa for 20 years in housekeeping and laundry. She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and was formerly a member of the CB Club of Washington County. Velma enjoyed being with her family and being in nature: feeding the ducks and enjoying wildlife.

Survivors include two daughters: Bessie Milford-Dykstra of Iowa City, Robin (Dustin) Pickart of Iowa City, three grandchildren: Dennis, Amy and Amber Cummings, one adopted granddaughter Eva Bland, six great grandchildren and one brother, Roy Bland, Jr., of Centerville, Iowa.

Preceding Velma in death were her parents, her husband Andy on September 5, 1999, her granddaughter Amanda Milford on July 24, 2017, three infant grandchildren and her sister Gladys Ervin.
