Wesley Burrows

A Celebration of Life for Wesley N. Burrows, 91, of Kalona will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Church of The Nazarene in Iowa City with Pastor Michael Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 21 from 4 – 7PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Church of the Nazarene Chaplaincy, Hospice of Compassus and Parkview Manor. Wesley Burrows died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.

Wesley Nathanial Burrows was born August 19, 1926 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Earl and Ruth (Makepiece) Burrows. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II . On April 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to Hazel Kimes in Moulton, Iowa. Wes worked as a janitor for five years at the Moulton High School and 20 years at the Kalona High School. He owned and operated Burrows and Sons Roofing for 47 years. Wes was a member of the Church of The Nazarene and he and Hazel enjoyed traveling to a number of nursing homes each month to sing and play the guitar for the residents. They also had a radio show on a station in Centerville and later on KCII in Washington.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching birds. On the day of his death Wes was honored as a veteran by Hospice Compassus for his service and sacrifice to the citizens of the United States of America.

Survivors include three sons: Rayner (Pat) Burrows of Kalona, David (Doreen) Burrows of Tampa, Florida, and Jerry (Tina) Burrows of Kalona, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Rushlo of Phoenix, Arizona, nine grandchildren, and one sister Francis Freeburg of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Preceding Wes in death were his parents, his wife Hazel, his son James, three sisters: Ila, Lillian and Bonnie and two brothers: Ernie and Alfred.
