Alta Marie Miller

Alta M. Miller (Mrs. Elmer Gee), 91, of Kalona, passed from this life on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a stroke. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream on the Beatty Peterseim website, Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 3 – 7 PM at Fairview Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Fairview Mennonite Church. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Alta Marie (Kemp) Miller was born May 4, 1933, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Benedick and Sarah (Overholt) Kemp. She attended East Lincoln Rural School. On June 6, 1970, she was united in marriage to Elmer Gee Miller at Fairview. She was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Alta was a quilter and an avid gardener, especially known for raising black raspberries. She enjoyed playing the harmonica and her happiest times were spent with her family.

Survivors include three sons: Lowell (Dorothy) Miller of Wellman, Merlin Miller of Kalona, Keith (Jannea) Miller of Kalona; seven grandchildren: Kali, Hunter, and Lexi Miller and Chase, Nolan, Helen and Zackery Miller; two sisters: Edna (Milford) Yoder of Wellman and Mary Jane (Doyle) Yoder of Springfield, MO, two brothers: Alvin (Rachel) Kemp and Noah (Linda) Kemp of Kalona and sister-in-law Betty Kemp of Iowa City.

Preceding Alta in death were her parents, her step-mother Katie, husband Elmer Gee, granddaughter Abby Marie Miller, two sisters: Fannie and Carolina Kemp and five brothers: Samuel, Henry, Elmer, Omer and Maynard Kemp.
