Anna Geyer

A celebration of life for Anna May (Fountain) Geyer, 87, of Kalona, will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Erling Shultz and James Blake officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sharon Center Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, July 15 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Anna May Geyer died Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Anna May Fountain was born January 6, 1929 in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Vernon L. and Myrna E. (Van Syoc) Fountain. She attended Willow Grove #2 rural school, Sharon High School, University High School and graduated from Kalona High School.  She was united in marriage to Richard Geyer on February 14, 1948 at the Sharon Center EUB Church.  Anna May worked as a switchboard operator at Sharon Telephone, as a housekeeper at the Univeristy of Iowa for 26 years, and was a temp worker at ACT.  She was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed square dancing, camping, gardening, quilting, crocheting and knitting.  Sharing her handwork was important to Anna May, and she knitted stocking caps for babies at the U of I Children's Hospital and when she and Dick spent their winters in Texas, she made comforters for a mission project in Mexico.

Survivors include three daughters: Linda (Noah) Kemp, Joyce (Ron) Wiles and Christine Glosser all of Kalona, Iowa, seven grandchildren: Amanda Miller, Andrew Wiles, Sara O'Donnell, Rachel Knebel, Katie Miller, Brandi Parsons, Brittany Blake, 14 great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, three step great grandchildren, one step great great granddaughter, a sister-in-law, Ruth Fountain of Kalona, a brother-in-law, Vernon Hepker of Nebraska, brother-in-law, Raymond (Mary) Geyer of Wellman, sister-in-law, Donna (John) Isaacs of Iowa City, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Anna May in death were her parents, her husband Dick, sister Vera Hepker, brother Omer Fountain and granddaughter Angela Lynne Kemp.
