C. Miller

C. Ray Miller, 93 of Kalona, died Friday, March 9, 2018 at his home in Kalona. Funeral Services have been set for Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM at The Kalona United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14, at the Peterseim Funeral Home from 4-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona 1st responders.

C. Ray was born December 5, 1924 in West Chester, Iowa the son of James Harold, and Glena (Davidson) Miller. He graduated from West Chester High School with honors in 1943. He was united in marriage to Mable Darlene Yoder on April 15, 1953.

C. Ray was a member of Kalona United Methodist Church and The Knights of Pythia. He farmed, was part owner and head mechanic at Miller Garage, drove a horse drawn school bus, and operated a horse drawn roadgrader in the making of Highway 92 in West Chester. He retired after 22 years of service as a custodian at Kalona Elementary. In his retirement he was a host for casino bus trips. He enjoyed square dancing, horse racing, car racing and playing card games.

Survivors include his Daughter Karen S. (Clarence) Berg and his son Lee (Deb) Miller of Kalona; Grandchildren, Lynsey Miller, Sarah Berg, Brittany (Brian) Bock, and James Berg; step-grandson Caleb Schaapveld.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mable in 2004, a brother David Paul and a sister Leila Ladenne and three grandchildren.
