Obituary

Carolyn Beachy, 73, of Kalona, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, following a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Upper Deer Creek Church, 3369 320th Street, Wellman, IA. The service will be available via YouTube on the Upper Deer Creek Connect page. Burial will follow at the Upper Deer Creek Cemetery adjacent to the church. The family will greet friends Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 2 – 7 PM at the church. A memorial fund has been established for Pathway Christian School and Rosedale International. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Carolyn Eby (Mummau) Beachy was born October 16, 1952, in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of Reist and Ruth (Eby) Mummau. She graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and earned an associate’s degree from Rosedale Bible College. Carolyn was united in marriage to Landon Beachy on August 31, 1975, in Elizabethtown, PA. She was a homemaker and teacher at Pathway Christian School and was a member of the Upper Deer Creek Church. Carolyn will long be remembered for her many gifts, including but not limited to her tea parties, table decorations, baking (especially her cinnamon rolls and bread), hospitality, and generosity, and the joy she infused into each gift she shared. She was a hat connoisseur and keeper of the menagerie and was known to make 2 AM girls trips to Perkins and Walmart. She loved and believed in her family relentlessly, loudly and extravagantly. Carolyn never let hard things dull her love for others. She gave with joy; her time, her things, her words, her ideas, her music and her food, and behind all of it, her love! Bodies fail, but love remains.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Landon of Kalona; four children: Grant (Jennifer) Beachy of Toledo, OH, Althea (Ryan) Miller of Victoria, BC, Kurt (Leah) Beachy of Independence, OR, Ramona (Brylee) Miller of Kalona; eleven grandchildren: Grael, Lorelei, Reist, YouveMica, LoveMica, Ruthie, June, Tate, Sybil, Jude, and Phoebe; one sister, Ginnie (Raymond) Seigrist of Brownfield, ME; and two brothers: Lee (Joyce) Mummau of Walnut Creek, OH and Reist Mummau of Lynchburg, VA.

Preceding Carolyn in death were her parents and two brothers: Richard and Ernie Mummau.
