Daniel Edward Murphy

Daniel E. Murphy, 66, of Oxford, passed from this life on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  His body has been cremated and a celebration of his life will Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 1 - 4PM, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 225 Highway 1 West, Iowa City. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Daniel Edward Murphy, was born January 24, 1957, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Warren and Jean (Southworth) Murphy. He attended Lone Tree Schools and was employed as a custodian at the University of Iowa for 31 years, retiring in 2020. On August 6, 2010, he was united in marriage to Laurie Embree in Oxford. Daniel enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson’s and later his Can-Am Spyder, landscaping and caring for his yard, and spending time with his family and friends.

Daniel will be deeply missed by his wife Laurie Murphy, two daughters: Nikki Kruse and Stephanie Eakes (Murphy), three sisters: Deb, Terri and Christine and his brother Mike, step-children: Chris and Samantha Buck, three grandchildren: Timothy, Chloe and Lilly, and best friends/cousins: Randy (Terry) and Larry Murphy and many nephews, nieces. Also surviving are his three fur babies: Wylye, Peaches and Sebastian and his motorcycle riding family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Cindy Vander Linden and Shelly Murphy and his nephew Chad Newmire.
