Darlene Miller

A celebration of life for Darlene F. Miller, 88, of Kalona will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church with Chaplain John King and Assistant Chaplain Dianne Brenneman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, July 15 from 4-7 pm at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.  A memorial fund has been established for Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church and the Iowa Lion's Foundation.  Darlene F. Miller died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Darlene Fern (Brenneman) Miller was born December 28, 1927 in rural Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Maynard and Bertha (Reber) Brenneman.  She was a member of the first graduating class from Iowa Mennonite School in 1948, and was united in marriage to Leo E. Miller on September 14, 1950 at the Lower Deer Creek Church.  She was a homemaker, worked in the kitchen at the Pleasantview Home, and in 1984 began selling Avon products, a job she loved because she got to meet new people and make new friends.   Darlene was a member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, the Lions and Lioness Club of Kalona, and served as the state chair person of the Iowa Lioness Club. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four children: Wendell (Cheryl) Miller of Iowa City, Eileen (Steve) Sawatsky of Champlin, MN., Merlin (Kathy) Miller of Denver, CO., Julia (Michael) Truex of Goshen, IN., nine grandchildren:Adam (Christon) Sawatsky, Luke (Kate) Sawatsky, Heather Miller, Gregory Miller, Taylor Truex, Zachary Truex, Matthew Truex, Molly Miller, Joseph Miller, two step grandsons: Jeremy (Sheila) Ours and Joel (Sonja) Ours, five great grandchildren: Eli, Nathanael, Calvin, Phoebe and Joanna Sawatsky and six step great grandchildren: Cole, Eli, Seth and Jude Ours and Simon and Odin Ours, one brother, Curtis (Sue) Brenneman of West Burlington, IA., one sister, Donna (Clifford) Helgens of Monticello, IA.,

Preceding Darlene in death were her parents, her husband Leo and a sister and brother-in-law Lola Jean and Maurice Bender.
