Dayle Chalupa, 88, of Kalona, passed from this life on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home in rural Kalona. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father Ben Snyder officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 4 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with a Rosary recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Dayle was born on March 12, 1938, the son of Raymond and Velda R. (Duwa) Chalupa. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Richmond. On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joanne Stumpf at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Dayle was a farmer and mechanic, having worked at Farmer’s Supply and Sales and at various other repair shops. Farming, hard work, and hunting were Dayle’s passions, but he also enjoyed going to tractor pulls, auto races, watching NASCAR on TV, and dancing. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, an honorary member of Richmond Am-Vets Post #107, and the Sons of Am-Vets.
Survivors include his wife Joanne of Kalona, six children: Alan Chalupa of Wellman, Colleen Lasek of Ainsworth, Bret (Lori) Chalupa of Kalona, David Chalupa of Williamsburg, Lisa Chalupa of Kalona, Don (Vicki) Chalupa of Riverside, nine grandchildren: Amanda (Joe) Schafer, Austin (Katie) Chalupa, Jesse (Betsy) Lasek, Blake Lasek (Molly Edgar) , Jamie (Katie) Chalupa), Christopher (Megan) Carriere, Sarah Chalupa, Zach (Cassidy) Chalupa, Kayti Chalupa (Blake Murphy), 13 great-grandchildren, one sister Carolyn “Corky” Cooper of Kalona, and several cousins, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dayle in death were his parents, an infant sister, sister Beverly Mast, brother Dwane Chalupa, daughter-in-law Joyce Chalupa, and son-in-law Bryan “Turbo” Lasek.
