Dean Arthur Schrock was born July 31, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Elmer L. and Pauline (Gingerich) Schrock. He attended rural school, Washington Township Elementary and Sharon Bethel School. On March 28, 1981, he was united in marriage to Karen Miller at the Kalona Mennonite Church.
Dean was an understated man of God. Residing in rural Kalona all 65 of his years he prized God and relationships with family and friends above all else. With Christ as his model, Dean gave himself for his wife. He placed her and their children’s needs before his own.
He enjoyed the outdoors. Whether mushroom hunting, enjoying morning coffee on the deck or watching a baseball game, he was in his element with his family and in God’s creation.
Dean’s final 19 years were spent employed in water treatment at The Water Shop. What began as employment would be better described as an additional family. This group was more to him than an employer. This was an extension of his family.
Survivors include his wife Karen of Kalona, two children: August (Abbi) Schrock of Des Moines, and Erin (Ben) Yoder of Wellman, two grandchildren: Scout and Shepherd Yoder, five siblings: Devon (Marge) Schrock of Washington, Iva (Wilbur) Hershberger of Millersburg, OH, Larry (Rosella) Schrock and Jim (Marilyn) Schrock of Kalona and Kenny (Tami) Schrock of Riverside.
Preceding Dean in death were his parents.
