Delmer D. Wagler, 81, of Wayland, died Thursday, January 7, 2021, at his home. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2021, at 10:00 AM at the Wayland Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the Sugar Creek Cemetery. A Livestream of the service will be available at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. The family will greet friends Sunday, January 10, from 2 – 5 PM at the Wayland Mennonite Church, where social distancing guidelines will be in place, and masks will be required. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Wayland Fire and Rescue. The Beatty Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Delmer Dean Wagler was born October 20, 1939, at home in Trenton, Iowa, the son of Alfred Michael and Josephine Marie (Isch) Wagler. He attended grade school in Trenton and graduated from Wayland High School. In December of 1960, he joined the United States Army and served his country for two years in active duty and two years in reserve duty. On April 5, 1964, Delmer was united in marriage to Sharon Schlatter at the Wayland Mennonite Church. Delmer was a salesman and owned and operated Wagler Woodcrafts for over 40 years. He was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, fishing, traveling and woodworking. Delmer never knew a stranger and made many friends while attending craft shows.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of Wayland, four children: Kevin (Joan) Wagler of Mt. Pleasant, Carmen Harris of Winfield, Kimberly (LaMar) Fenton of Mt. Union, Curtis (Lori) Wagler of Wayland, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with number eight on the way, and three brothers: Allen (Lucille) Wagler and Harold Wagler both of Kalona, and Edwin (Joyce) Wagler of Wayland.
Preceding Delmer in death were his parents, a sister Vada (Albert) Reimer, a brother Willis (Jackie) Wagler, and two sisters-in-law: Lorna and Eileen Wagler.
