Donald G. Hochstedler, 83, of Kalona, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital, following a sudden illness.

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Kalona Mennonite Church with Pastor Conrad Hertzler officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Funeral website, Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 3 – 7 PM at the Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Kalona Food Pantry. 

Donald G. Hochstedler was born September 6, 1940, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Ezra and Susan (Mast) Hochstedler. He attended Evergreen Rural School. On May 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Ellen Spenner at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. They just celebrated 58 years of marriage. Don served in the United States Army and was a truck driver, driving for Y and H Trucking, Skelly Oil, and Heartland and Crete Trucking companies. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing, going to coffee, putting puzzles together and getting together with his family on Sunday evenings.

Survivors include his wife Ellen of Kalona, two children: Duane Hochstedler (Julie Cole) of Kalona, Diane Hochstedler (Tod Kahler) of Kalona, two grandchildren: Michael (Brianna) Callahan of Washington, Hannah (Pascal) Fifi of Johnston, two great-grandchildren: Karsyn and Amani, and four siblings: James (Pam) Hochstedler of Kalona, Loren (Elvesta) Hochstedler of Kalona, Marlene (Dale) Schrock of Iowa City and Twila Swartzentruber of Kalona, and sister-in-law Nancy Hochstedler of Barstow, CA. 

Preceding Don in death were his parents, two brothers: Robert and Wayne Hochstedler, three sisters: Laura Hochstedler, Oleta (Ken) Bollman, and Carol (Harley) Glick and brother-in-law Don Swartzentruber.
