Doris Swartzendruber

A funeral service for Doris (Marner) Swartzendruber, 92, of Kalona, will be held
at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Patterson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, March 25 at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, and on hour before the service on Saturday at the church.  A memorial fund has been established for Crooked Creek Christian Camp.  Doris Swartzendruber died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.  Your love, prayers, and sympathy are greatly appreciated by the entire family.

Doris Ladene (Marner) Swartzendruber was born November 25, 1923, at home in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of David and Blanche (Swartzendruber) Marner.  She graduated from Kalona High School in 1942.  She broke her arm in kindergarten on the first day of school, but completed her high school education as valedictorian.  She was primarily a homemaker, but also worked as secretary at Farmers Savings Bank and manager of the Eastern Iowa Cutting Room fabric store.  Doris was united in marriage to Mark P. Swartzendruber at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church on June 1, 1947.  The couple lived in this area all their married life.  Doris was a life long member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, where she was involved in music and WMSC, teaching Sunday School, and serving as church secretary for over 30 years.  Doris and Mark were the first sponsors of Mennonite Youth Fellowship at Lower Deer Creek.

Doris is survived by son Linwood "Woody" (Karen) Swartzendruber of Ankeny, IA, Mary Lou (Roger) Farmer of Washington, IA, two granddaughters: Kenna (Dan) Fultz of Cross, SC, and Kara (Jamison) Prickett of North Liberty, IA, great grandchildren Esther, Naomi, Hannah, Talitha, Jacob, Chloe, and Daniel Fultz; Josie and Roman Prickett, and brother, Phil (Dorothy) Marner of Sarasota, FL.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents, her husband Mark in 2009 and two brothers: Don and Gerald Marner.
