A memorial service for Dorothy M. Johnson, 93, of Washington will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A visitation will be held Friday, October 12, from 1 – 7 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 5 – 7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington Public Library.
Dorothy Johnson died Monday, October 8, 2018 at her home in Washington. Dorothy Mary (Schnoebelen) Johnson was born April 21, 1925 in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of George and Mary (Heitzman) Schnoebelen. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Riverside. On January 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to George Johnson.
Dorothy was a homemaker and later in life was the activities director at Halcyon House in Washington. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and volunteered at the Washington County Hospital gift shop, the senior center and quilted for the United Presbyterian Church. Dorothy enjoyed reading, water color painting, drawing, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children: Michael (Dee) Johnson of St. Louis, MO., Linda (John) Ehlers of Buffalo, WY., Sue Ann (David) Huff of Cheyenne, WY., Gregory Johnson of Washington, IA., Eric (Rhonda) Johnson of Bellville, Ohio, nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three sisters: Frances, Anita and Delores and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband, her grandson Keith, and five siblings: Herb, Alvin, Zelma, Coletta and Vern.
