Washington

Dorothy Widmer 89 of Washington, Iowa passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the United Presbyterian Home, Washington, Iowa.

Dorothy was born on January 19, 1936, and grew up in Wayland Iowa. On November 4, 1952, she married her sweetheart, Darwin Widmer and together they raised 4 children.

Dorothy’s life was marked by kindness, service, and steadfast trust in God’s promises. She believed wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ as her Savior and her hope was firmly grounded in His word. She faithfully poured her love into her family, teaching them not only by her words, but by her example. She reflected the heart of Jesus in everything she did. She loved serving in her church, Faith Baptist, pouring her love, time, and talents into many of the programs.

Throughout her life, as a child, she loved her horse “honeyboy” and spending time with her high school friends. After her and Darwin were married, they began their life in Louisiana.

In the early years of her married life, she took pleasure in gardening, sewing, baking, and shopping. When her children were older, she enjoyed working as a dental assistant with John Helscher. Dorothy loved creating crafts and made many personal and unique gifts from the grapevines she found on their acreage south of Washington. In her later years she loved biking, putting puzzles together, and visiting with friends.

She and Darwin loved traveling and exploring many parts of the US on their Goldwing motorcycle. Since Darwin loved fishing, they spent much of each summer at the Lake of the Ozarks.

A Celebration of Life will take place with her immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be designated to Compassus of Washington. Cards can be sent to- The Widmer Family, 710 McCollister Court, Iowa City, Iowa 52240 – and/or online condolences may be sent to Dorothy’s family through the Beatty Funeral Home.
