E. Elaine (Weaver) Hochstedler, 81, of Kalona, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the East Union Church with Pastor Joel Beachy officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 AM at the church. Private family burial will be held at the Hummer Cemetery prior to the visitation. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Iowa City. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Elaine was born December 3, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Tillman and Evelyn (Bender) Weaver. While in grade school she excelled at spelling, and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School and attended Hesston College, where she learned secretary skills. She worked at the speech and hearing clinic at the University of Iowa Hospital. Elaine met her husband Keith Hochstedler while attending First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, and the couple was united in marriage on February 5, 1966, at the church. Three children were born to this union: Anne, Jeffrey and John. Elaine’s grandfather was a minister and had sixteen children. Keith and Elaine loved going to Weaver family reunions. She always wanted to be a mother and loved being a mother. Elaine thought every baby was beautiful and she created wonderful baby blankets for many children. She was also very skilled at cross stitch and knitting and was a helpmate to her husband. Elaine enjoyed music and attending church, especially the Living Word in Washington, Iowa and Shiloh in Kalona.
Survivors include her husband Keith of Kalona, daughter Anne (Michael) Caputo of Simi Valley, California, two sons: Jeffrey of Honolulu, Hawaii, John of Iowa City, Iowa, two grandchildren: Alyssa (Matthew) Montoya and Mia Caputo, and one brother Linton Weaver of Wellman, Iowa.
Preceding Elaine in death were her parents.
