While in grade school she excelled at spelling, and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School and attended Hesston College, where she learned secretary skills. She worked at the speech and hearing clinic at the University of Iowa Hospital. Elaine met her husband Keith Hochstedler while attending First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, and the couple was united in marriage on February 5, 1966, at the church. Three children were born to this union: Anne, Jeffrey and John. Elaine’s grandfather was a minister and had sixteen children. Keith and Elaine loved going to Weaver family reunions. She always wanted to be a mother and loved being a mother. Elaine thought every baby was beautiful and she created wonderful baby blankets for many children. She was also very skilled at cross stitch and knitting and was a helpmate to her husband. Elaine enjoyed music and attending church, especially the Living Word in Washington, Iowa and Shiloh in Kalona.

Survivors include her husband Keith of Kalona, daughter Anne (Michael) Caputo of Simi Valley, California, two sons: Jeffrey of Honolulu, Hawaii, John of Iowa City, Iowa, two grandchildren: Alyssa (Matthew) Montoya and Mia Caputo, and one brother Linton Weaver of Wellman, Iowa.
