Ed Boone

Ed Boone, 87 of Washington, died Sunday, April 12, 2026, at his home in Washington.

Funeral services have been set for 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Rees officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Beatty Funeral Home, with family present from 5:00-7:00 PM. A memorial in the name of Ed Boone has been established to the Hospice of Washington County.

Ed was born May 13, 1938, in Washington Co., Iowa, the son of Daniel Abner and Mary Louise (Libe) Boone. He graduated from West Chester High School in 1957 and was united in marriage to Joyce Abbott on June 12, 1960, in Exline, Iowa.

He was employed with Ballou Oil, Moorman Feed, Hy-Vee for 15 years and retired from the Washington Community School District after serving for 18 years. Ed was a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church, enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle to different states, camping, boating, and wintering in Texas for 15 years. He loved NASCAR racing, was a big fan of Iowa State and Kansas City Chiefs football, sitting in the screen-in porch watching the grandchildren play, and teasing his grandchildren, especially Heath.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of Washington; children, Edgar E. “Ed” Boone and wife Patty of Wayland and Donna E. Greiner and husband Fred of Washington; sister Sharon Askey and husband Les of Texas; grandchildren, Heath, Andy, Patrick, Jeremy, and Donavan; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.

Ed was preceded by his parents and sister, Phyllis Jean Stout.
