Esther Mae Leichty

Esther M. Leichty, 94, of Wayland, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Parkview Home in Wayland. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Eicher Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Josh Wenger officiating. The service will be live streamed at the Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church Facebook page. A private family burial will be held prior to the service. The family will greet friends on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Eicher Mennonite Church from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Eicher Mennonite Church and Gideons International. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Esther Mae (Fisher) Leichty was born February 11, 1928, in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of Gideon K. and Mary (Chambers) Fisher. She graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and attended business college. On May 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Orlin Leichty in Lancaster. She worked in the kitchen at Parkview Home in Wayland, and later volunteered at the Washington County Hospital Gift Shop for several years. She attended Eicher Mennonite Church, was a member of Gideon’s Auxiliary, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Orlin of Wayland, six children: John (Nancy) Leichty of Ft. Wayne, IN, Audrey Platt of Iowa City, Carma (Ben) Baughman of Washington, IA, Helen (Mike) Meth of Loveland, CO, Keith (Mary) Leichty of Charlotte, NC, Wayne (Melia) Leichty of Avon, IN, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandson, and 3 great-granddaughters.

Preceding Esther in death were her parents, grandson Carey Meth, son-in-law Shawn Platt, two brothers: Kenneth and John Fisher and two sisters: Mabel and Rachel Fisher.
