Fred F. Stigers, 88 of Wellman formally of Washington, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Parkview Manor in Wellman.
A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with military honors. The service will be live-streamed on the Beatty-Peterseim Facebook page, YouTube Channel, or the website. Burial will be at a later date at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Washington Co.
Fred was born January 4, 1936, in Minonk, IL, the son of Fred A. and Bonnie (Bursott) Stigers. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and was united in marriage to Betty J. Crawford on September 12, 1953, in Davenport. He later married Kay Mangold on December 5, 2009, in Washington.
Fred grew up in Iowa and Illinois, enlisting in the Army following High School, and served twenty years in Germany, Viet Nam, and Italy. Following his military service, he was a farm hand and was employed for 20 years for Sheller-Globe in Iowa City. Following retirement he operated Fred’s Lawnmower Repair. He enjoyed working on lawnmowers, fishing, hunting, and spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include children Ron Stigers and wife Lori of Cloquet, MN, Dan Stigers and wife Deb of Washington, Fran (Tami) Stigers of Washington and Pam Calhoun of Manson, WA; siblings, Mary Lou Hoose, Dorothy Shotwell, Judith Ripley, James Stigers, Claude Stigers, Barbara Parangoa, David Stigers, Bonnie Kjosa and Roger Stigers; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, February 9, 2008, wife Kay August 30, 2013, daughter Paula Kirfman, infant children Debbie and James, siblings, Amos Stigers, Elsie Hiller, Samuel Stigers, infants, Jay, Jonnie, and Annie.
