December 9, 1921 — February 8, 2015

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude M. Berg, 93, of Kalona will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:30 AM at HolyTrinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father David Brownfield and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 10 from 3 – 8 PM with a Prayer Service at 3PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Pleasantview Home.  Gertrude died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Gertrude Mary Berg was born December 9, 1921 in Houghton, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Diena (Holtkamp) Bentler.  She graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Houghton.  On September 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Urban Berg in Houghton.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Gertrude raised eight children and then went to work at Oral B Laboratories in Iowa City for 37 years.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, bowling and reading.

Survivors include seven children: Becky (Fred) Reid of Cedar Rapids, Rick (Connie) Berg of Coralville, Randy (Sandy) Berg of Kalona, Jim (Bev) Berg of Kalona, John Berg of Kalona, Vicky Berg of North Liberty, Jacque (Steve) Wertz of Kalona, 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, two sisters: Agnes Fullenkamp of West Point, Rita Meyer of Davenport, two brothers: Tony Bentler of Mt. Pleasant, Frank (Joan) Bentler of Ft. Madison, two sisters in law: Catherine Bentler of West Point, Genevieve Altenhofen of Harper and two brothers in law: Jerome Berg of Sigourney and Bernard (Cleo) Berg of Wellman.

Preceding Gertrude in death were her parents, her husband Urban, one son, Thomas, two brothers: Louis and Leo and four sisters: Rosina, Mary, Clara and Dorothy.
