Hazel Burrows

December 11, 1925 — March 21, 2016

A celebration of life for Hazel L. Burrows, 90, of Kalona will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of The Nazarene at 1035 Wade Street in Iowa City, with Pastor Michael Lynch officiating.  Following a fellowship time at the church a graveside service will be held at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  A memorial fund has been established for the Church of The Nazarene Chaplaincy.  Hazel Burrows died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.

Hazel L. Burrows was born December 11, 1925 in Pollock, Missouri, the daughter of Bernice and Amel (Morelan) Kimes.  As a child on the farm, Hazel loved riding horses and taking care of the sheep.  She graduated from Moulton High School and on April 17, 1945 she was united in marriage to Wesley N. Burrows in Moulton, Iowa.  Hazel was a member of the Church of The Nazarene and she and Wes enjoyed traveling to a number of nursing homes each month to sing and play the guitar for the residents. They also had a radio show on a station in Centerville and later on KCII in Washington.

Survivors include her husband, Wes of Kalona, three sons: Rayner (Pat) Burrows, David (Doreen) Burrows and Jerry (Tina) Burrows all of Kalona, a daughter in law, Kathy Rushlo of Phoenix, Arizona and nine grandchildren.

Preceding Hazel in death were her parents and her son James.
