Howard Hartsock, 84, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Per his wishes he has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service on the 14th. Memorial donations may be directed to the Johnson County Cattleman's Association.

Howard was born October 4, 1941, the son of George E. and Gertrude (Bell) Hartsock. He attended Sharon Country School #3 (Hartsock School) and graduated from Kalona High School. After high school Howard was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. Howard was a farmer all of his life on his family’s 175 year-old farm. He was a member of the Johnson County Cattleman's Association and enjoyed going to the Kalona Sales Barn, hunting and visiting with friends, family and his neighbors.

Survivors include his sister Mary Gringer of Iowa City, sister-in-law Twyla Hartsock of Alaska, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Howard in death were his parents, two brothers, Jake and Bill Hartsock, sister Doris Hartsock and brother-in-law Don Gringer.
