The family will greet friends from 9 – 10:30 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Gospel Meeting Room at 1266 Wilson Avenue, SW, Cedar Rapdis, 52404. Jacqueline McCoy died Thursday, June 21, 2018 in Iowa City.
Jacqueline (Rust) McCoy was born April 1, 1925 in White Plains, NY., the daughter of Franklin M. and Laura (McGraw) Rust. She graduated from The Rye High School and attended community college. Jacqueline joined the United States Marine Corps in April of 1945 and served at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, CA. On November 9, 1945 she was united in marriage to James "Carl" McCoy. Jacqueline enjoyed cooking, sewing, painting and taking care of babies. She was also a master gardener and her specialty was flowers.
After Jacqueline became an empty-nester, she applied for and was selected to work as a Food Service Worker at the Veterans Administration Hospital on December 28, 1980. During her tenure, she received awards for her "unique contribution to the mission of the agency"; "substantially exceeding performance requirements". Upon her retirement from the Government of the USA, following ten years of "loyal service", not only did her fellow workers admire her for her committed work ethic, but her superior personally thanked her for her "positive contribution to the department" and wanting her to know her "friendly smile will be missed!" Perhaps mom's positive outlook stems from a verse she oft quoted to her children if she heard any griping: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:34 KJV. Her beautiful smile will be missed amongst her family, but certainly not forgotten!
Survivors include eight children: James McCoy of Denham Spring, LA; Timothy (Kathleen) McCoy of Redfield, AR; Mark McCoy of Olympia, WA; Daniel (Jennifer) McCoy of Tenino, WA; Jonathan (Vivian) McCoy of Eugene, OR; Laura McCoy of Iowa City; Philip (Nancy) McCoy of Lakeville, MN; Andrew McCoy of Tenino, WA; a daughter in law, Dawn McCoy of Riverside, IA, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding Jacqueline in death were her parents, her husband, one son Roy and a sister Sue Jean Rust.
