James “Jim” K. Covington, 62, passed from this life on Friday, May 15, 2026, at his home in Ainsworth. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, from 3 – 7 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for Riverside VFW Post #6414.
James Kent Covington was born July 24, 1963, the son of Jere K. and Judy (Fitzgerald) Covington. He graduated from Highland High School and worked as a mail carrier for the Iowa City Post Office for 30 years. On September 5, 1987, he was united in marriage to Patty Nicholson at the Washington United Methodist Church. From 1982 to 2002 he served in the National Guard, including a six-month tour of duty during Desert Storm. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, going to local races and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. He was a long-time member of Riverside VFW Post #6414.
Survivors include his wife Patty, his daughter Samantha (Nick) Muller of Tiffin, grandson Casey Muller, his mother, Judy (George) Schultz of Ainsworth, two brothers: Jeff Covington of Ainsworth, and Travis (Lyndi) Schultz of Ainsworth, sister Cheyenne (Dennis) Kiefer of Kalona, sister-in-law: Peg (Kevin) Hunter of Haskins, and brother-in-law Perry (Janet) Nicholson of Riverside, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Jim in death was his father Jere and his sister-in-law Pammy Nicholson.
