Jerry Short

A celebration of life for Jerry Dean Short, 23, of Brighton will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland.  Visitation will be held Thursday, May 25 from 2 until 7 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where family will greet friends from 4 – 7 PM.  A memorial fund has been established for the family’s use.  Jerry Short died Monday, May 22, 2017 in Wayland, Iowa.
Jerry Dean Short was born April 23, 1994, the son of Jerry and Lynda (Hemsted) Short.  He graduated from WACO High School.  Jerry farmed for Steve Kauffman during high school until 2015 when he began working at River Products in Coralville.  He was most recently employed by Cornerstone Excavating in Washington.  On September 26, 2015 he was united in marriage to Dystany Ford at his parent’s home in Wayland.  Jerry enjoyed hunting, trapping, being outdoors, collecting Scooby Doo memorabilia and spending time with his boys and taking care of his family.
Survivors include his wife Dystany of Brighton and two sons Brantley and Caleb, his parents Jerry and Lynda Short of Wayland, a sister Alexis Hemsted of Boulder, CO., two brothers: Joseph Andrew Short of Anamosa, and his son Justus, Justin Leroy Short of Cedar Rapids and his daughters Grace and Jayde, his paternal grandmother Nancy Short of Ottumwa and maternal grandmother Lavada Hemsted of West Plains, MO.

Preceding Jerry in death was his brother Harley in November of 2016, paternal grandfather Gary Short and maternal grandfather Kenneth Hemsted.
