John was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan, was a season ticket holder and enjoyed traveling to away games, including bowl games and attended the Rose Bowl game in 2016 with his daughter Kaitlin. He loved attending all of Kaitlin’s sporting events and considered himself a grill master, grilling wings at Nitro games. John made a trip to Ft. Dodge for state softball every year.

Survivors include his daughter Kaitlin of Tiffin; mother Kay Kaalberg and aunt June Hunter of Williamsburg; father Robert Kaalberg of Marshall, WI; three brothers Wayne (Sally) Kaalberg of DeForest, WI, Craig (Karen) Kaalberg of Davenport, IA, Kevin (Andrea) Kaalberg of McCook, NE, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

I smile when I think of John. He was on my crew when we rogued corn. I tell one specific story often. John was using his rogue hook as a golf club and as he swung it slipped from his hands and flew in to the air. Of course. I laughed hysterically and it didn't go over well with the boss. Subsequently John and I both sat on the bus for punishment. I'm praying for you Kay. God somehow finds a way for us to heal through all of the pain. God Bless.
