John Anthony Miller

John Anthony Miller, 38, of Wayland, died Monday, September 5, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Church in rural Wayland. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, from 5 – 7 PM at the Bethel Church. A memorial fund has been established for the family’s use; checks may be written to Bethel Church.

John was born January 10, 1984, in Henry County, the son of William “Bill” J. and Donna A. (Witmer) Miller. He was born and raised in Wayland and graduated from IMS. He farmed with his father, operated heavy equipment and worked at Cornerstone Excavating since 2008. John appreciated good food and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He was a continuous learner of many subjects, particularly history. He had an amazing memory and was a vault of information. He enjoyed the farm and spending time outdoors. John’s relationship with Jesus guided his life and he was a great man of faith. He will be remembered as a thoughtful and generous man with a great sense of humor.

Survivors include six siblings: William “BJ” (Jana) Miller, Doug (Jennifer) Miller both of Wayland, Christina Miller of Cedar Rapids, Matt (Lisa) Miller, Elizabeth Miller, and Patricia Miller (fiancé Matthew Goers) all of Wayland, ten nieces and nephews: Kaleb, Whitney, Walker, Kiana, Delaney, Kinzey, Chancey, Payton, Holden and Finnley.

Preceding John in death were his parents, infant brother Michael, nephew Michael Miller and niece Jaicey Miller.

What a precious boy who we watched become a man. So very sad to know he’s gone from us, so very glorious to know he’s with Christ. Our love to all of you.

John was such a kind and funny addition to our IMS class of 2002! What a huge loss. Thinking of his whole family during this sad time.
