Joretta Hochstetler

March 8, 1932 — December 11, 2020

Joretta J. Hochstetler, 88, of Kalona, died Friday, December 11, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020, from 2:30 – 3:30 PM at Bethel Church in Wayland. Social distancing guidelines will be in place. A private family graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM at the Bethel Cemetery. A Livestream of the service will be on the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. A memorial fund has been established for Bethel Church.

Joretta Jane (Boshart) Hochstetler was born March 8, 1932, the daughter of Arthur E and Stella (Graber) Boshart. She attended rural school and graduated from Wayland High School. On June 3, 1951 she was united in marriage to Harlan Hochstetler. Joretta worked at the drug store in Wayland for several years and was the bookkeeper of Harlan’s businesses. She was a member of Bethel Church where she taught Sunday school and bible school. Joretta played the accordion in her younger years and sang in a sextet as an adult. She enjoyed traveling to Florida for the winter and playing cards.

Survivors include three sons: Joey (Alice) Hochstetler of Crawfordsville, Ledru (Sheri) Hochstetler of Lebanon, OR, Lamonte (Valerie) Hochstetler of Salem, OR, 10 grandchildren: Joseph (Carla), Tim (Kim), Ilona (Matt) Roberts, Lara, Jill (Jamie) Wakefield, Cory, Shelby (Chris) Archuleta, Craig (Michelle), Brad and Luke, twelve great-grandchildren, one brother Royden (Carol) Boshart of Wayland, and two nieces: Lisa and Marketta.

Preceding Joretta in death were her parents and her husband Harlan on January 1, 2019.
