Joyce(JEM) Maher Edmondson Bender age 66, died at her home in rural Kalona on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 following a lingering illness. Memorial services will be at a later date, Mrs. Bender has donated her body to the University of Iowa Deparment of Anatomical Studies.
Joyce Ellen Bender was born October 26, 1948, the daughter of John and Joyce E. (Strang) Maher. She graduated from high school and attended the University of Iowa for two years. She was united in marriage to Enos Bender at Shiloh on May 5, 2001. JEM was a member of Shiloh Church, Kalona.
Survivors are her husband Enos of Kalona, children; Suzette (Russell) Knipfer of Washington, Kristi Read of Washington, Benjamin (Trisha) Bender of Coralville, Nathaniel Bender of New Hampshire, grandchildren; Korin (Skyler) Yamilkoski, Amanda Herring, Devon Herring, Alexis Read, Peyton Read, Daniel Bender, Annika Bender, two great grandchildren, Tucker and Arissa. Also surviving are two brothers, Clinton (CJ) (Angela) Maher, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, Michael (Janet) Maher of North Liberty and two sisters Judy Maher (Roger) Campbell and Joanie (Brian) Hanel both of Cedar Rapids.
JEM was preceeded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary.
