Joyce “Jody” L. (Geyer) Wiles, 73, of Kalona, passed suddenly on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream on the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Wellman Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, October 6, 2025, from 4 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders.
Jody was born on October 18, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Anna May (Fountain) Geyer. She graduated from Mid-Prairie High School and Denver Women’s College Culinary Program. On June 25, 1971, she was united in marriage to Ronald J. Wiles at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. Jody owned and operated the Wellman Cafe for several years, and Jody’s Diner in Wellman. She later worked at the University of Iowa, first as a cook at the hospital, later as a secretary in registration, and then in the registrar’s office. She was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and enjoyed bingo, garage sales, going to the casino, and spending winters in Arizona. Jody loved her grandkids, and spending time with them was very important to her.
Survivors include her husband Ron of Kalona, two children: Amanda (Colton) Miller of West Branch, Iowa, Andrew (Heather) Wiles of Kalona; eight grandchildren: Tiffani, Cassi-Anna, Rylee, Cody, Casey, Josie, Brent and Conner; seven great-grandchildren: Alissa, Bentlee, Lincoln, Gauge, Trinity, Jordan and Jozzlynn; two sisters: Linda (Noah) Kemp of Kalona and Christine Glosser of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jody in death were her parents, in-laws Harvey and Anna Wiles, and her niece Angela Kemp.
