Julia K. (Hobbs) Shull, 79, of Kalona, passed from this life on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Crow officiating. A fellowship meal will be held following the service. Julia Kathleen “Julie” Shull was born January 14, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Nora (Blick) Hobbs. She attended West Chester Elementary School and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1965, attended Coe College for one year, and graduated from St. Lukes Nursing School in 1968. She worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

She was united in marriage to Terry Shull at the West Chester Methodist Church. The couple later divorced. Julie was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church where she participated in choir, UMW and many Bible studies. She volunteered at the Pleasantview Home and enjoyed camping, gardening, animals and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was always happy to spend time in God’s creation and loved praise and gospel music.

Survivors include her three sons: Matthew (Shannon) Shull, Mark (Laci) Shull and Micah (Melissa) Shull all of Mount Pleasant; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two brothers: Tom (Karen) Hobbs and Dean Hobbs of West Chester.

Preceding Julie in death were her parents, her sister Debra Zahradnek, and nephews Bill Hobbs and Clint Zahradnek.
