Larry Freese

Larry D. Freese, 76 of Washington, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital.

Funeral Services have been set for Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 2:00PM at the Beatty Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until service time on Sunday. Burial with military honors will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA at 11:00AM Monday, May 14. If you would like to ride your motorcycle in the procession to the cemetery, meet at the Van Meter exit on I-80 at 10:30AM Monday. Memorials in the name of Larry D. Freese may be designated to the American Legion Post #29.

Larry Duane Freese was born October 6, 1935 in Sac City, Iowa the son of Clayton and Audrey (Pennall) Freese. He graduated from Sac City High School in 1954. Larry served in the United States Army in Germany from 1958 – 1960, and spent two years in the active reserves and two years in inactive reserves. After the service he was employed at Oscar Meyer in Perry, Iowa for 27 years and then at Bazooka in Granger, Iowa. Larry was united in marriage to Hazel Gilbert and the couple had one daughter. They later divorced. He was a member of the American Legion Post #29.
Larry enjoyed yodeling and was a colonel of auctioneering. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his passion in life was riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his daughter, Denise Miller and husband Norman in Des Moines, Iowa, eight grandchildren, Logan, Devon, and Ava Miller, Erin and Dani Gilbert, Josh, Joe and Anna Gilbert, two brothers, Calvin Freese of Solon, Iowa, Kenneth Freese of Rockford, Illinois, two sisters, Jaree Lewis of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Joan Auen of Sac City, Iowa and longtime companion, Della Glaspie of Washington, Iowa.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents, two sisters, Janis and Darlene and three brothers, Donald, Tom and Richard.
