Leola White

April 7, 1924 — October 8, 2016

A celebration of life for Leola F. (Hershberger) White, 92, of Kalona will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 10:30 am at the East Union Mennonite Church with Pastor Joel Beachy officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 4 – 7 pm at the East Union Mennonite Church. Leola White died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.  The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Leola Ferne (Yoder) White was born April 7, 1924 in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Chris A. and Barbara (Troyer) Yoder.  She graduated from Kalona High School and Hesston College.  She was united in marriage to John Hershbeger on June 16, 1946.  John died in 1991.  On June 1, 1998 she was united in marriage to Clayton White.  Leola was the office manager and secretary at the Kalona Sales Barn from 1970 to 1975, after which she worked at the Kalona Savings Bank as a teller for 13 years. She also did seamstress work and enjoyed piecing quilts and sewing.  She was a life long member of East Union Mennonite Church, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School Superintendent and served as president of the WMSC.  She also served as the president of the Iowa Nebraska Conference WMSC from 1972 – 1974.

Survivors include her husband Clayton of Kalona, four children and spouses: Dale (Joan) Hershberger of Midway, AR., Shirley (Gaylord) Yoder, Ed (Bobbie) Hershberger and Clayton (Tina) Hershberger all of Kalona, nine grandchildren: Chad Hershberger, Matt Hershberger, Lori Hershberger, Chris Yoder, Jeremy Yoder, Beth Carolan, Tyler Hershberger, Austin Hershberger, Riley Hershberger, 17 great grandchildren, a sister Minerva (Emil) Yoder of Phoenix, AZ., and a brother Kenneth (Barbara) Yoder of Wheaton, IL.

Preceding Leola in death were her parents, her husband John and four brothers: Lester, Floyd, Delmar and Cecil Yoder.
