Lillian Elizabeth Embree

Lillian (Holderness) Embree, 83, of Apache Jct, AZ (formerly of Oxford, IA), passed away from this life on June 7, 2025. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:30 – 5:00 PM at 609 Hollywood Blvd (VFW 3949) in Iowa City.

Lillian Elizabeth Embree was born February 10, 1942, to Virgil E. Holderness, Sr., and Elsie Mae (Graham) Holderness. She married Gary R. Embree on September 17, 1960. Lillian graduated from the Kirkwood College Nursing Program in 1971. She retired in 1997 from the Iowa City VA Medical Center. Lillian enjoyed all kinds of racing, but especially NASCAR. Shopping at Goodwill was always a fun experience for her, and she loved finding a treasure or a bargain. She enjoyed going to the dog park with her beloved dogs Boo and Lil’ Chica.

Lillian will be deeply missed by her son Brian (Balbina), daughter Laurie, grandchildren: Christopher, Samantha, Dillon, Jazmin, Arissa, and Dallas, great-grandchildren: Dean, Avalynne, Alexa, Jaxon, Olivia, and Remy, as well as her brother and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, son, Terry, grandchildren, Ashley and Derek, and her five brothers.
