Luella Yoder

Celebration of life services for Luella F. Yoder will be held Monday April 24, 2017, 10:30 am at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona.  Burial will follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona.  Visitation 2-4 Sunday April 23, 2017 at the Peterseim Funeral Home.  Memorial fund is established for the Kalona United Methodist Women or Iowa City Hospice.  Luella Yoder passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Pleasantview Home, Kalona.


Luella Fern (Yoder) Yoder was born July 22, 1922 in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Eli and Esther (Brenneman) Yoder. She was united in marriage to Monroe D. Yoder on February 14, 1943 at the East Union Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker and was a cook for the Mid-Prairie School District for over thirty years. Luella was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, baking, cooking, quilting and crocheting. Luella served as a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include five children: Karen (Charles) Miller of Iowa City, Beverly (William) Bauer of North Oaks, MN., Boni Yoder (special friends Lynn Brown and Gwen Wiegmann) of Riverside, Jim M. Yoder of Kalona, Cherie (Nathan) Miller of Kalona; 13 grandchildren: Angela (David) Bywater, Deanna Miller, Jeff (Ashley) Miller, Jennifer (Brett) Johnson, Matt (Erin Costanzo) Bauer, Meredith Bauer, Greg Yoder, Stephanie (Cory) Arensdorf, Elizabeth (Kyle) Kling, Sarah (Damon) Smith, Brandon, Brady and Bridget Miller; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Luella in death were her parents, her husband Monroe in 1980, an infant granddaughter, seven brothers: Ivan, Lyle, Marvin, Wilbur, Calvin, Duane and Raymond Yoder and two sisters: Eva Brenneman and Verna Gingerich.
