A Mass of Christian Burial for Luella G. "Lu" Harland, 86, of Kalona, will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, April 3 from 4 – 7 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where a Rosary and Prayer Service will be held at 3:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established for Camp Courageous and the Richmond Public Cemetery. Luella Harland died Friday, March 31, 2017 at her home.
Luella Genevieve (Schnoebelen) Harland was born May 27, 1930 in Richmond, Iowa, the daughter of Charles M. and Evelyn (Droll) Schnoebelen. She graduated from Kalona High School in 1948. On May 15, 1951 she was united in marriage to Ray Harland at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Lu worked as a medical receptionist in Student Health at the University of Iowa for 25 years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the National Catholic Society of Forresters Little Flower Court 1181, Richmond AMVETS Post #107 Ladies Auxiliary and the Residents for a Better Richmond organization. Lu enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bird watching, playing cards and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter Lori A. (David) Wells of Graniteville, SC, son Lee (Betty) Harland of Kalona, eight grandchildren: Jeff (Julie) Harland of Richmond, Brandon (Kim Breese) Harland of Collins, IA., Ryan (Kari) Harland of Kalona, Michelle (Severin) Gilbert of Davenport, Jason (Joni) Wells of Camas, WA., Danielle (Chris) Smith of Cedar City, UT., Nicolle (Robert) Folkers of Savannah, GA., Jeremy (Brianna) Wells of West Jordan, UT., 17 great grandchildren, two brothers: Francis Schnoebelen of Unionville, MO., Dale (Connie) Schnoebelen of Iowa City, sister Maxine (Dale) Hammer of Iowa City, sister-in-law Darlene Schnoebelen of Milton, FL., two brothers-in-law: Leo Ruth of Ely and John Geers of Rantol, IL.
Preceding Lu in death were her parents, her husband Ray, three brothers: Jerome, Edwin and Verle Schnoebelen and two sisters: Alice Geers and Phyllis Ruth.
