Lynda Lorraine Short

Lynda L. (Hemsted) Short, 60, of Wayland, ended her earthy journey on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her home in Wayland. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The service will be available via Livestream on the Beatty Peterseim website, Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington from 2 – 8:00 PM where the family will greet friends from 5:30 – 8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

Lynda Lorraine Short was born December 20, 1963, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Donald and LaVada Louise (Sweet) Hemsted. She graduated from West High School in 1982. Lynda worked in housekeeping and later as a unit clerk in the Labor and Delivery Ward at the University of Iowa Hospital, retiring in December of last year. On April 14, 1991, she was united in marriage to Jerry Short at the softball field in Hills. She enjoyed crafting, including building dollhouses, scrapbooking, and making cards. 

Survivors include three children: Alexis Hemsted of Thermopolis, WY, Joseph (Lori) Short, and Justin Short of Coralville; three grandchildren: Jade, Gracelyn, and Justus; her mother LaVada Hemsted, and one brother Kyle (Noelle) Hemsted, several nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles, including her aunt Aggie Rochwick; with whom she shared a special bond.

Preceding Lynda in death were her father, her husband Jerry, two sons: Harley and Jerry D. Short, her brother Keith Hemsted, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
